Uros Island / Taquile
Trip Description
A surprising journey to the past! A 3-hour trip by lake... Taquile is a natural island that is located 36 km. from the city of Puno to the north-east of Lake Titicaca, this island remained hidden from the world until a few decades, with Inca descent, now Taquile is an Andean rural community with great vocation of artisanal production, Preserve and develop their cultural and natural heritage in harmony. Upholding the laws of the trilogy of the Inca empire, practicing the Ayni; reciprocity as a mechanism of self-defense, consists in mutual help between settlers as a strategy for survival. In Taquile there are 6 of them with a diversity of unimaginable landscapes that you should not miss. The organization of the island of Taquile is based on Sunday meetings in their mother tongue that is Quechua, looking for joint alternatives between comunero - community (self-development), with the functionality of the agricultural calendar, space is used rationally and the crops to be sown are determined, these decisions are strictly complied with, showing the Andean worldview that maintains a strong respect for the Pachamama, is inhabited by people loyal to their land. In Taquile there are no police because there are no crimes committed, there are no vehicles because the roads are pedestrian, when problems arise they are solved in the assemblies. The main activities are agriculture (potato, small corn, olluco, beans, barley, wheat and quinoa), fishing and handicrafts (for fine handmade textiles they are recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO) Throughout the textile process, the people of Taquile acquire the fundamental and ancestral knowledge to ensure the continuity of their culture, since children weave the figures that recall the knowledge and social obligations, as well as the qualities that island society requires to enter adult life by weaving a single chullo with patience and hard work. Taquile teaches us to dream that one day we will recover that ecological sensitivity that will make us increasingly tolerant and happy... Since in the cities there is no real contact with nature. To be able to appreciate more of the island of Taquile, let’s meet!
